My family has a long Scouting tradition which I am proud to be a part of. I have been involved personally over 30 years. 3 as a Cub Scout, 6 as a Boy Scout and the remainder as a leader. As a youth I attained the rank of Life, attended 4 years summer camp at Horseshoe Scout Reservation, went to Philmont scout ranch in 1978, participated in a seven day canoe trip on the Delaware river as part of Troop 31 of Chadds Ford ,PA and enjoyed numerous other outings and activities.

As an adult I have remained active in Scouting serving over the years as Assistant Den Leader, Den Leader, Webelos Den leader, Tiger Cub Den leader, Asst Cubmaster, Cubmaster, Committee member, Asst Scoutmaster, Scoutmaster, Venturing Crew Advisor, Sea Scout Mate (Asst Ldr.), Unit Commissioner, Asst District Commissioner, Cub Scout and Venturing Roundtable Commisioner.

I served on Day camp staff for five years, Pow-wow staff for five years, served on trading post staff for the 1997, 2001 & 2005 National Scout Jamborees. Attended 13 OA section conclaves, 3 NOACs, and the 2003 OA National Indian Summer Conference.

Honors I have recieved include: Troop 31's Dando Award, Camp Horseshoe's Silver Buckle, Den leader Award, Webelos Den leader Award, Cub Scouter Award, Cubmaster Award, Tiger Cub Den Leader Award, Boy Scout Leaders Training Award, Venturing Leaders Training Award, Commissioners Arrowhead Honor, Commissioners Key, Scoutmasters Key, Advisor's Key, Distinguished Commissioners Award, Woodbadge, Powderhorn, Seabadge, James E. I have been a member for 15 years in the Girl Scout Program as an Asst Troop leader and recently became a Lifetime Member. Within the several units I have been active with, I have worked with Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts. I have been active with the Freedom Valley Girl Scout Council and with the Girl Scouts of Southeastern PA serving in Troop 3178 of Concordville, PA. I am currently a member of the Garnet Valley Service Unit Team.

Ironically, I have had several girls in my Troop whose parents I went to school with. Over the last several years our troop has had 1 Bronze award, 2 Silver Award and 1 Gold Award recipient. ( The highest Award in Girl Scouts)

As a leader I have recieved several certificates of appreciation, the Leadership Developement pin and the "Joan Leight Leadership Award". The "Joan Leight Leadership Award" is one Award I treasure highly because as a boy, she was my Cub Scout Den Leader and her son Michael one of my best friends. Her example of unselfish devotion to the youth in our community has been an inspiration in my life.

She died of cancer at 38 years of age having been involved in Girl Scouts for approximately 30 of them.
