GOD ONLY THROWS "COME AS YOU ARE" PARTIES. We come to Him as we are. Only God can change us, so if God wants to change something in our lives, He does it. Any changes we might make are very, very temporary, anyway. So, no other approach to God will succeed, for God cannot be fooled or conned. So, if you haven't done so already, present yourself to God, who will invite you to His party and receive you and love you just as you are. However, once we come to Christ, we encourage you to completely surrender to God so that His work in your life is not hindered, so that He can effect necessary change. So if you are seeking God "come as you are", he is waiting for you! If you are suffering from addiction, alcohol, drugs, tobacco, money, pornography, food, materialistic things "come as you are". If you are broken, a single parent, divorced, had an abortion, been abused, suffering from depression, unforgiveness, find a church, walk the the door, just as you are. true Christ followers that "get it" will accept you, just as you are. If they don't, keep looking, I find non-denominational churches most accepting. If you are a "Christian" remember you are God's Ambassador and you may be the "First Contact" with the father for someone. Salvation is a free gift available to all not a treasure to be hoarded. You may have an eternal effect on someones life. you could be the one who had a major part in someone life or just a footnote which part you will not realize until you reach the Kingdom. One last note, whether you are just beginning the journey or are already on it, there is line in Chapter 5 "How it works" in the AA Big Book states "If you have decided you want what we have and are willing to go to any length to get it- then you are ready to take certain steps. At some of these we balked. We thought we could find an easier, softer way. But we could not. With all the earnestness at our command, we beg of you to be fearless and thorough from the very start. Some of us have tried to hold on to our old ideas and the result was nil until we let go absolutely." That and the 12 steps themselves in use in many addiction programs and are ideally relative to walking in Christ. If you have to be addicted to anything why not the Father? The 12 steps in general
